Let’s be honest, buying a mattress can feel a little overwhelming. With so many options, comfort levels and ‘must have’ features, it’s tempting to go in with a fixed idea of what you want, or worse, buy without trying all the options. But when it comes to something you’ll sleep on every night, trying a mattress in store really does matter.

Why trying in store makes such a difference
We speak to customers all the time who say the same thing: ‘I thought I knew what I wanted… until I tried it’. You could walk into a store set on buying a natural and turnable mattress like our Wool Luxe 2800 but you recognised you’re a hot sleeper and that our Cool Refresh 3200 with its cool touch cover could be more suitable, not the outcome you would’ve expected right? And that’s exactly the point, everyone’s body and sleep needs are personal and not always obvious, that’s why it’s important to take all factors into consideration.

Trying a mattress in store lets you listen to your body straight away. You can feel how supportive it is, how comfortable it feels under pressure points like your shoulders and hips, whether it genuinely helps you relax or if it’s just missing something to give you that optimum sleep experience. This is something no online description or review could ever replace.
If you’re not sure where to go, our Find a retailer feature makes it easy to locate where your nearest Sleepeezee beds are to try and you can start your journey in person.
Be open-minded about firmness
One of the biggest surprises for many shoppers is firmness. We often meet people who are convinced they need a firm mattress because they’ve ‘always had one’ or think it’s better for their back. But once they try a few options, they realise a medium or slightly softer mattress like our new ActivFlex 3600 is actually their favourite.
When you’re in store, we always recommend trying a range of firmness levels, even ones you wouldn’t normally consider. Compare different Sleepeezee mattresses side by side and notice how each one feels as you lie down. You may be surprised at how a mattress with a bit more cushioning or zoned support helps your body settle more naturally.
Take your time and lie down properly
This is so important! Sitting on the edge of a mattress or pressing your hand down on it quickly won’t tell you anything about how you would find it to actually sleep on. To really test a mattress, you need to fully lie down on it, take a few minutes on each mattress and lie in your usual sleeping position to see how it would feel if you were actually going to sleep on it.
If you’re a side sleeper, check how your shoulders and hips feel. If you sleep on your back, take note if whether your spine feels supported and comfortable. Give your body time to relax and sink in naturally.
Sharing a bed? Lie down together and see how it feels when one of you moves. A mattress should support both sleepers without disruption. Luckily for you, all of our mattresses contain individually pocketed springs which all move independently, limiting the chances of disturbing your sleep partner throughout the night.
Use expert advice (it’s what we’re here for)
Sleepeezee retailers are there to help, not rush you. They understand the differences between our mattresses, from natural fillings to advanced gel foams, and can guide you towards options that suit your sleep style and comfort needs.
When you’re ready to start exploring your options, use our Find a retailer tool to visit a store near you which showcases our mattresses. Here you can take your time, try a range of mattresses, and discover what really works for you. Because the best mattress isn’t the one you think you want, it’s the one that feels right when you lie down.
